COVID-19 Updates

Things of Interest / March 26, 2020

Dear Centennial College Retirees’ Association Members,

As your Board works on upcoming meetings and events, we have been monitoring the coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak on a regular basis.  The health and safety of our members is our top priority and one of our objectives during this time is to provide you with up to date information.

Our members (if you are over 60 or have underlying cardiac, respiratory disease or diabetes) have been identified as having a higher risk of developing severe disease from COVID 19.  For this reason, we have made the prudent decision to cancel our annual Spring Lunch.  We hope to have a large celebration on October 21- Fall Lunch & AGM.

We have posted COVID 19 resources and general information on our website- / and will be adding to the information on a regular basis.   There are several best practices recommended by the World Health Organization that you can do to help prevent the spread of the virus to you and your family.  These actions include:

  • Washing your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based rub
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Clean surfaces regularly with disinfectant or bleach
  • Stay informed of flu, fever or cold symptoms
  • Cough or Sneeze into your sleeve or tissue and dispose of it immediately
  • If over 60, avoid crowded areas or places where you might interact with people who are sick
  • Stay home and call the doctor if you are sick.  Eat & sleep separately from your family if you are ill
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop shortness of breath

Here are websites with the most up to date information for the general public:

The Government of Canada site: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html

Ontario’s ministry’s public website:  (https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus?amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;qid=95944921) offers information in several languages.

The World Health Organization (WHO)  (https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019) has provided an excellent link for you to share with members of the public.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Ellen Bull, President

Luzia Bidwell
