December 2021
Happy Holidays to all of our members and their families! We hope that you continue to stay healthy and connected to your friends and family during this current pandemic.
Shutting down our in-person meetings, including our in-person Annual General Meeting (AGM) continues to be very disappointing but necessary throughout 2021. The Board continues to meet through Zoom and members are welcome to join the meetings. With the continuing financial support from Centennial College, we have been able to continue our virtual meetings, prizes and our scholarships. This year, we have proudly donated to the CCRA Annual scholarship, the Joseph McQuabbie scholarship, Giving Tuesday and we supported the family gifts from the Childcare Centre. Here are a few updates from your CCRA Board as we all strive to meet the challenges of the pandemic.

2021 Zoom Annual General Meeting- (Spring) May 12, 2021.
Our in-person Annual General Meeting (AGM) originally scheduled for October 2020 had been postponed until May 12, 2021. During our 2021 virtual meeting, members reviewed and approved final 2019 & 2020 reports. In addition to our Executive Reports, Pat Lee presented highlights from our Members Survey followed by a discussion. Some of the highlights included:
- 70% of respondents are in support of a bursary for life-long learning for members
- Lack of website awareness noted by some respondents and suggestion for inclusion of member updates/ “what have we been up” section etc.
- Luncheons seem to be what members most look forward to post pandemic
- Book club/gardening classes also high on list of Member wishes
Special thanks to our guest speaker Wendy Lund RN, MSc in Mindfulness Studies, CEO & Founder Wellth Management for her virtual presentation: “Resilient Rituals in Retirement”.
2021 & 2022 CCRA Membership Fees Suspended
Our members continue to be cautious about attending in-person meetings so we have offered Zoom meetings. At this point in time, we still aren’t able to gather together in person so the CCRA Board has decided to suspend the collection of the annual membership fee for another year. We’re hoping in-person activities can be reinstated in mid-to-late 2022. If you would like to continue your OCRA membership for 2022, please check the CCRA website for instructions on how to do that.
